M is a powerful mutant with a traumatic past that gave her the ability to turn into Penance, a dangerously feral creature. At the end of every Villain Turn, she can choose whether to stay in her M form or whether to turn into Penance (and vice-versa).
This choice affects the abilities she’s able to access on several of her cards. In her M form, she’s able to fly, use her genius intellect to reveal the next Master Plan card, fire devastating concussive blasts across several locations, or use telepathy to turn up cards in the Storyline that had been turned facedown. In her Penance form, she uses her claws to deal devastating unpreventable damage, her dense skin can protect her from damage, and her razor-sharp skin makes her lethal (though she may also hurt any other Heroes who get too close to her).
